Cutting out the agent - Should I accept acting work directly?

This should ring alarm bells immediately.

Should an actor be approached directly with an offer of work  by someone who does not want to work through an agent is basically saying "I want to rip you off." It is also sabotaging the relationship with your agent as it's effectively cutting them out of potential income.

As an agent I cannot think of any reason a legitimate professional within the film and television industry who would NOT want to work via an agent.

An agent is in the business of obtaining work for their actors, NOT putting them out of work.

There is always a deal that can be put together to suit both parties. An actors worth is their image therefore it must be protected, always maintain control of the image or performance. An agent will make sure the appropriate contracts are in place and all parties are protected.

If approached you should always refer the enquiry to your agent.
